Foreign Student Advisers

Dear Foreign Student Advisers,

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday season.

My name is Charlene Morgan and I am the Vice Chair for International Student Affairs in the University Student Senate (USS) - CUNY.

The University Student Senate (USS) is the official governance organization charged with representing the interests of the students of the City University of New York (CUNY).

My position as Vice Chair requires for me to work very closely with the foreign student advisers on each campus to make the experience of our international students a great one.

I have made it very clear to my fellow colleagues, the importance of having International Student Clubs on each campus; therefore an International and Immigrant Student Affairs Committee have been formulated for these reasons. At present we are in the process of formulating posters and flyers to advertise our goals.

Each Committee member has been assigned a school to find out the specific needs of each adviser and students and also to help in the activation of the international clubs. They will be visiting your campuses (preferably by appointments). Below is a list of the names of committee members and the schools they are assigned to:

Sherard Harewood: Baruch College, Borough of Manhattan Community College and New York City College of Technology

Arishna Ramphal: LaGuardia Community College, Queenborough Community College, College of Staten Island and Hunter College

Charlene Morgan: Brooklyn College, Medgar Evers College, Graduate Center and Kingsborough Community College

Nigel Gombakomba: York College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Queens College

Wendly Pons: Bronx Community College and Hostos Community College

Yanique Lingo: City College

Adah Emihe: Lehman College

One of the means to also inform students about our goals is by mass emailing. Therefore I am asking please if each adviser could assist in notifying students about the activation of international student club on their campuses through the next mailing you send out to all F1-students.

If you need any information regarding our goals (USS International Students Committee) for the academic year, please feel free to contact me at any of the numbers below.

We will keep you updated as we move our agenda forward.

Thanks in advance and best wishes for 2006.
